In its second consecutive year of participation, as a Beta company, two women of the Pangeanic team have shown our recent advances in PLN
The WebSummit is the largest international technology conference, which has taken place annually since 2016 in Lisbon. In this edition, it has had the participation of more than 70,000 visitors, 2,150 startups along with large companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft or Huawei from 163 countries, 100,000 CEOs, 1,200 speakers, 1,220 investors and 2,500 journalists. The event, which took place at the beginning of November in the four pavilions of the FIL and the Altice Arena stadium, is an essential date in the calendar of thousands of startups and companies such as Pangeanic, which serve as a reference in the technological entrepreneurship of the international scene.
In a context of development and innovation with a strong presence of women, thanks to spaces such as “Women in Tech,” now in its third edition, and with the prominent attendance of over 46.3% of women, our company has been represented by a team made up of two of its members: Its “Chief Science” Mercedes García-Martinez, PhD in Computer Science and specialised in neuronal automatic translation and by Virginia Virino, its Sales Manager.

More than 200 people passed through our stand where they could access demonstrations of our company’s automatic translation, text anonymization and other functions developed by our technological division specialized in Artificial Intelligence, PangeaMT, which has been a pioneer in this type of investigations applied to the language industry for over 3 years.
The presence of Pangeanic supports the strong impulse of the Spanish companies also represented by Red.es and ICEX, which provided representation to other 30 companies with innovative potential in other technological disciplines in the Spanish pavilion established at the Portuguese capital fair.
In addition, we had the opportunity to talk to investors and other companies developing innovative technology applied to blockchain, fintech or machine learning. For example, startups of the Ekkono category, which applies Artificial Iintelligence to machines and vehicles so that they can predict and learn or Flux that allows us to save the paper of the receipts by using them in their digital version.
In the speeches offered on the Web Summit there were personalities such as Brad Smith, President of Microsoft; Katherine Maher, CEO of Wikipedia; Guo Ping, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman; Hans Vestberg, President and CEO of Verizon; Elie Seidman, CEO of Tinder or Gillian Tans, Chairman of booking.com. Margrethe Vetager, European Commissioner for Competition, also attended the meeting. Even people as influential as Edward Snowden and Tony Blair participated in debates.
