Going Hybrid: Toshiba and Pangeanic Steps to Machine Translation Hybridation

A joint article between Pangeanic’s R&D team and Toshiba’s Knowledge Media Laboratory describing an initial hybrid pilot for the development of machine translation technologies from English into and out of Japanese has been published by the Asia-Pacific Association for Machine Translation.

The article was co-written by Elia Yuste, Manuel Herranz and Alexandre Helle as leader of the nipponization module at Pangeanic and by Hirokazu Suzuki from the Corporate Research & Development Center of Toshiba Corporation.

It describes the efforts and progress made with the statistical machine translation open-source platform Moses and Toshiba’s rule-based system to obtain better outputs.
